Food Smart is developed solely by Envision Health Networks Incorporated, a privately held company formed back in 1995 with a single mandate: to produce the most useful, easy to use and cost effective nutrition management software possible.

Envision does not design, develop, sell or support any products other than Food Smart. Our sole purpose is to provide the best possible software and make Food Smart a market leader within the personal, commercial and professional nutrition software industries.

The Product Evolution

Food Smart grew out of dismay over the status quo of nutrition management software. We had a vision of designing better software - a product which was powerful enough for professional use, but easy enough for home use as well.

We originally developed Food Smart with a professional audience in mind, then discovered that many others across the country were interested in tracking their personal nutritional needs, goals and achievements and thus was born our Home Edition product.

Our exposure to the professional market also led to a number of inquiries from the food service sector, whose needs centered around recipe design and menu planning, rather than patient support, and so we developed our Business Edition to provide a cost effective commercial level software solution as a compromise between our home and professional products.

Future Directions

Of course, technology keeps moving forward and we've been fortunate enough to keep up year to year.  All editions of Food Smart enjoy the benefits of repeated R+D investment in terms of integrating newer solutions to providing great software.

Food Smart Version 3.0 introduced support for the Internet, and Food Smart Millennium Edition pushed the envolope further.  Our most recent release, Food Smart 6.0 represents a complete ground-up re-engineering of our core technology, providing more complete and consistent features throughout the software.  It also provided an opportunity to further standardize our data formats and leads us directly to SQL database support and XML data transfers.
